I always get this feeling that shows are at their best when they explicitly point out that an interesting evil character (in this case azula) is a lot more vulnerable than she appeared at first. Though it heavily depends on the show of course^^...
This is a fantastic piece of work, I've seen a lot of the art Azula features in her as single-faceted(her defining trait varying on how they want her presented). But in this illustration, she feels present, dynamic and oh-so-Azula. Her expression, her hair and the colors chosen all go towards bringing to life her shattered state.
It all strikes me as her being at her very rawest and most undistilled.
I love this! I love how you portrayed both her evil psycho side and her young vulnerable side! I also lovee the colors and how it looks like you literally just went up to her and said "Azula! Say cheese!" and took a picture when she was all sad like..
